Q1. Would my condition get better on its own?
This depends on the condition you have and what you mean by ‘better’. It is well documented that inflammation, which is one of the main causes of pain, will often subside within forty-eight to seventy two hours. Therefore the pain will most likely decrease or even disappear. However, the underlying cause and effect of an injury will lead to scarring and reduced flexibility, making re-injury more likely if it is not properly treated.

Q2. What is a Slipped Disc?
This is when one of the discs which separates one vertebra from another is injured and its wall bulges like that of a bicycle tyre. In some cases it puts pressure on a nerve, leading to pain down the arm known as brachial neuralgia or in the back of the thigh and leg, where it is known as sciatica.

Q3. How many treatments it likely to take?
It is not possible to be definite about this but you should see an improvement within three sessions.

Q4. How and why do you treat babies?
Babies can get stressed when the mother is in labour, especially when delivered by forceps or suction. Tension in the muscles and covering soft tissues of the head, neck and abdomen can occur. This form of stress leads to the set of symptoms known as colic. With the use of gentle soft tissue releasing techniques including cranial osteopathy, these tissues relax and the baby returns to normal within two to three sessions.

Q5. How long is a treatment?
The first consultation takes one hour and involves asking you questions regarding your present complaint, your medical history, followed by appropriate tests, examination and treatment. Subsequent treatment sessions last half an hour.

    Q6. What should I wear?
Wear loose clothing such as a pair of shorts or leggings and a baggy t-shirt.

    Q7. What is colic?
It is best described by the following set of symptoms in a baby:

Irritability and inability to settle
Indigestion/ significant wind after feeds
Screaming, especially evenings around 5-6pm
Gets very distressed and angry; may kick legs
Restless behaviour
Gulping of food, then very sick with wind.

    Q8. Is there parking available?
There is free parking outside the practice.
